Gorilla Tracking in Rwanda and Congo (5 Days)

This safaris starts in Kigali, Rwanda, visit Congo via Uganda’s boarder at Kisoro. Virunga National Park (covering an area of 790,000 ha) comprises an outstanding diversity of habitats, ranging from swamps and steppes to the snowfields of Rwenzori at an altitude of over 5,000 m, and from lava plains to the savannahs on the slopes of volcanoes. Mountain gorillas are found in the park, some 20,000 hippopotamuses live in the rivers and birds from Siberia spend the winter there. Visitors to Congo stay the night before in Uganda at Kisoro. Visas are arranged and obtained the day before, and the next day, they start earl early at 06:00 for the 2 hour journey to the Congo Gorilla Park.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival
On your arrival at Kanombe airport, you will be welcomed by our guide and depending on the arrival time, you will visit the Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi and drive Northwards to PNV for dinner and rest overnight preparing for Gorilla tracking in the following morning. O/N: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Hotel La Palme (FB).

Day 2: Parc National des Volcans (PNV)
After breakfast, you will drive to the Park Headquarters for briefing by the guides before heading for gorilla tracking in the park. Tracking can be hard ad challenging hence requires physical fitness of the participants. Parc National des Volcans is a forest with hilly sceneries, steep slopes and swamps can make tracking a hard and tiring experience. Tracking can take as long as up to 9 hours of a walk in the forest searching for the gorillas. However an our of interaction with this closest relatives to human is indeed a rewarding experience. Day 3: Parc National des Volcans – Kisoro, Uganda
After break fast you will drive and cross the border to Uganda (visa fees $50). You will have lunch in Kisoro and head for a relaxed exploration of the beautiful Lake Mutanda in the volcanoes region. You will return to your hotel and rest preparing for gorilla tracking the following morning. . O/N: Gorilla forest camp or Heritage Hotel Kisoro or Travellers Rest Hotel (FB)

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking
You will drive to Virunga park in DRC headquarter for briefing before going to the jungle at around 8:00am. Track Gorillas, this is the climax of the tour. Gorilla tracking can take 3 -9 hours on walking in the jungle before one returns to his/her accommodation, the jungle, precipitous landscape and rain may make the tour challenging but with a close encounter face-face with the largest primate of Africa is a remarkable experience you will ever have in life. Day 5: Kisoro – Kigali
You will have a relaxed morning and breakfast then later cross the border back to Kigali (visa fees $60). You will have lunch in kigali and visit Genocide Memorial museum at Gisozi. Later transfer to the Airport during time for you flight and fly out.
